Cultural Humility in Home Visiting Practice

Explore the crucial role of cultural humility in home visiting practice and its direct influence on engaging with a diversity of families. This webinar will assist the audience with identifying and responding to common barriers to delivering culturally competent care, and offering practical skills to enhance their interactions with families. Participants will be encouraged to consider reflective questions about their own cultural humility, ultimately equipping them to deliver equitable, inclusive care for pregnant individuals and families participating in home visitation programs, including Healthy Babies Healthy Children and Nurse-Family Partnership.

Intended audience: Public health nurses and family home visitors working in Healthy Babies Healthy Children or Nurse-Family Partnership; community-based professionals working with pregnant individuals or families with infants or young children.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

• Outline the concept of cultural humility and its relevance to the delivery of home visiting services to pregnant individuals and families with young children
• Identify common obstacles to providing culturally competent care within community-based programs
• Acquire actionable cultural humility skills for meaningful engagement with familiesDescribe strategies to advocate for inclusive practices among teams delivering services to pregnant individuals and families with young children

Presenter(s): Amina Alizzi

Amina Alizzi (she/her), RN, BScN, is a passionate Public Health Nurse. With a degree in neuroscience, she is continuously reflecting on how our environments and relationships shape the way we move about the world, which drives her commitment to promoting cultural humility in home visiting practice. Having grown up amidst loved ones who were new to this land, Amina values story-telling as a form of connection and understanding. She's intrigued by communication and is constantly pursued by the Duolingo bird! In her free time, she enjoys swimming, hiking, and slacklining.
