Please register by Sunday, November 19. A minimum of 10 registrants by Monday morning are required for this event to proceed.

In recognition of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls, the Dalla Lana School of Public Health (DLSPH) and the Sexual Violence Prevention and Support Centre (SVPSC) invite you to attend SVPSC’s workshop on ‘‘Understanding Sexual Violence & Harassment: Tools for Prevention & Responses.” The session will provide an overview of key concepts and promote a deepened understanding of sexual violence, sexual harassment, and consent. Participants will acquire supportive language for responding to disclosures of sexual violence, learn how to access and make referrals to valuable campus resources, and learn intervention techniques that can be utilized if witnessing sexual harassment. By the end, participants will be equipped with the knowledge, resources, and skills to support survivors.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify the key differences between a disclosure and a university report
  • Discuss how colonization and interlocking systems of oppression relate to our understanding of sexual violence
  • Understand responder and survivor intersectionality
  • Identify steps in providing a supportive, trauma-informed response to a disclosure of sexual violence
  • Describe two impacts that sexual trauma may have on someone’s academic and/or workplace success
  • Understand how to supportively refer someone to the Sexual Violence Prevention & Support Centre and how you can also access support services
  • Understand different intervention techniques and when you might use them

The workshop will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, from 12:00-2:00 pm in the Health Sciences Building (155 College Street), Room 574. Join us for this important workshop to foster a safer and more informed community within DLSPH and beyond. This event is open to DLSPH students, staff and faculty. Food will be served.

To learn more about Sexual Violence Education and Prevention, we strongly encourage you to complete a SVEP module before the training.
