Reducing alcohol harm in Ontario municipalities: Policy options and overcoming challenges

The Ontario Public Health Association (OPHA) Alcohol Workgroup and the Canadian Alcohol Policy Evaluation (CAPE) Community of Practice is pleased to host this webinar that will:
  1. present the prevalence of alcohol consumption in Ontario as well its connection to deaths, emergency department visits and hospitalizations, due to chronic diseases.
  2. present effective alcohol controls for municipalities, in light of current and potential future expansion of alcohol sales (e.g., grocery stores, corner stores).
  3. review the impacts of expansion of alcohol sales in Ontario grocery stores and speak to implications of further potential increases in access.
  4. share the experience of one local health unit who partnered with their municipality and utilized sociodemographic and health data to prevent the expansion of alcohol retail availability in a neighbourhood experiencing low socio-economic factors.
