PHPC Membership overview

If you are a Public Health and Preventive Medicine Specialist, or are working in the field of public health and preventive medicine or community medicine, you are entitled to submit an application for membership with the Public Health Physicians of Canada.

PHPC is the ONLY pan-Canadian organization representing the interests of public health and preventive medicine physicians – JOIN NOW!

Physician Member (Active Member)

A graduate of a Canadian medical school or equivalent, with either a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) Fellowship or a Quebec certificate in public health and preventive medicine or community medicine (or equivalent) and licensed by a Canadian licensing authority to practice medicine. Active Members must also be engaged in practice related to public health and preventive medicine or otherwise show an active and primary interest in the field of public health and preventive medicine and conform to PHPC standards. Active Members have the right to participate in all PHPC meetings, hold any office and vote.

Resident Member

In a training program accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent, in a field related to public health and preventive medicine. Resident Members have the right to participate in all meetings of the Society, vote for and serve as the Resident Member on Council.

Application for all other members not listed on the membership form must be confirmed and approved through the PHPC office. Please email the PHPC at info@phpc-mspc.ca to inquire.


PHPC Membership Categories

Full Active Member

  • Must meet the Physician Member criteria outlined above
  • Must be actively engaged in the practice of public health or related professional activity in Canada 

Annual fee: $350 per year OR $280 per year if auto-renewal is set up

Note: Any member who, by reason of permanent disability or undue hardship, is unable to continue active membership may apply for free/reduced membership, at the discretion of PHPC Council. Please contact info@phpc-mspc.ca for more information. 

New Full Member

  • Must meet the Physician Member criteria outlined above
  • Must be actively engaged in the practice of public health or related professional activity in Canada
  • Must be joining PHPC for the first time (includes new graduates)

Annual fee: $100 per year

Note: Members are only eligible for New Full Member status for one year 

Retired Member

  • Must meet the Physician Member criteria outlined above
  • Must be retired from the practice of public health
  • Must demonstrate a contribution to the public health community (for example: speaking to Resident Council, delivering a webinar, supporting a Symposium presentation, etc.) 

Annual fee: $100 per year

Note: Retired members will need to pay the regular full membership fee and will have a portion of their fees reimbursed once they make their contribution, as outlined above.

Corresponding/Out-of-country Member

  • Must meet the Physician Member criteria outlined above
  • Must reside outside of Canada

Annual fee: $50 per year

Resident Member

  • Must meet the Resident Member criteria outlined above

Annual fee: free while enrolled in an eligible PHPM residency program
