In North America, the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems are used for heating and cooling. With a well-fitted high-efficiency filter, they can also be used to remove airborne particulate matter. The filtration performance of the system is substantially influenced by many factors that are often system-, filter-, and building-specific. In this seminar, these influencing factors, and the best practices for filtration performance improvement will be discussed.

Presenter: Dr. Amy Li

Dr. Li studies strategies to improve indoor air quality and reduce occupant exposure to airborne pollutants in buildings. Her research is focused on the automation of strategies such as filtration and ventilation through pollutant concentration monitoring. In addition, she investigates the impact of occupant activities on indoor pollutant sources. Dr. Li is working with an interdisciplinary team to improve indoor air quality in community spaces. She also serves as a member of the Indoor Air Quality Advisory Group of the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers.
