Surveillance Advances Seminar Series

The Surveillance Advances Seminar Series will focus on topics defining the future of public health surveillance and emerging issues and perspectives in surveillance. This seminar series will introduce public health surveillance concepts and principles with discussions of specific topics in epidemiology, public health, and health equity.  

The seminar series will also encourage discussions about the relevance of innovation and new technologies and surveillance methods and their role in the future of the public health surveillance systems, identifying the challenges and the strategies to improve surveillance systems.

Governance and how surveillance methods can integrate equity in considering the interaction of social, cultural, political, and economic contexts in developing and implementing strategies and programs to improve the health of populations will be covered.

Dates

Ten accessible virtual seminars will be delivered monthly on the last Tuesday of the month from September 2023 to July 2024, excluding December 2023.


Please join us for the launch of the Surveillance Advances seminar series on Tuesday, September 26 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm (ET), where Dr. David Buckeridge and Dr. Yoav Keynan will discuss the foundations, gaps, and opportunities for public health surveillance in Canada and the future ahead.

This virtual event is the first seminar of the seminar series that will be co-hosted by the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) and the National Collaborating Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCCID).

By the end of this seminar, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the foundations of public health surveillance, including its importance in addressing public health threats and promoting population health and well-being.

  2. Describe current gaps and future opportunities for public health surveillance in Canada.

  3. Discuss how they can contribute to the development of a vision for public health surveillance in Canada.

Surveillance Advances is also approved by the Council of Professional Experience for professional development hours for members of the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors.
