An Evening with Dr. CP Shah: A Special Alumni Event & Book Launch

  • 28 Sep 2023
  • 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM
  • In-Person Event

Join us for a celebration of Professor Shah’s impact on Public Health in Canada. This event, a unique confluence of literary appreciation and academic recognition, is open to DLSPH alumni, community members, all interested in the trailblazing work of Dr. Shah.

Book Launch: "To Change the World: My Work With Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in Canada"

The highlight of the evening will be the launch of To Change the World, a captivating memoir by Professor C.P. Shah. Immerse yourself in Dr. Shah's journey from a small town in Maharashtra, India, to professor of public health at the University of Toronto, while addressing inequities in Canadian health care, specifically in underserved and First Nations communities. This memoir is an inspiration to all Canadians, encapsulating Professor Shah's remarkable contributions to the field, including the first Canadian textbook on public health. Dr. Shah is the recipient of several awards including the Order of Ontario (2004) and the Outstanding Physicians of Ontario award (2007) by the Council of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, for excellence and coming closest to meeting society's vision of an "ideal physician”.

Alumni Award: Recognizing Excellence in the DLSPH Community

As a testament to his enduring impact, we will also be presenting the C. P. Shah Alumni Award of Excellence to a distinguished individual who has advanced the field of public/population health or health systems in Canada through their contribution and or sustained efforts in the practice of public health or managing health care system, teaching, and research. The recipient of this prestigious award serves as inspiration to current and future generations to continue to strive to make an impact in Canada and beyond for the greater good. We are pleased to announce that this year’s recipient is Mr. Matthew Anderson, President and CEO of Health Ontario, Government of Ontario and an MHSc graduate of the Institute of Health Policy, Management, and Evaluation (IHPME) at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health.

Event Highlights:

A Conversation with Dr. Shah: Hosted by DLSPH's own Suzanne Stewart, hear reflections from Dr. Shah on a life of service to marginalized and disenfranchised communities.

Networking Reception: Connect with fellow alumni, public health advocates and community members over refreshments, fostering meaningful connections and sharing perspectives.
