Knowledge Translation: Turning Data Into a Story

Once again, Health Promotion Ontario is hosting its free annual webinar series. This year the theme is Health Promotion in a New Era: Skills we need for a changing world.

If the past three years have taught us anything, it’s that we constantly need to innovate, adapt and overcome. In the years ahead, we will continue to face complex problems that require new approaches and upstream thinking. That’s why we’re focusing this series on key skills you’ll need now and into the future, to tackle the big issues ahead.

This year, we’re doing things a little differently. This session will feature panelist presentations and discussions, but our panelists will reflect both traditional and non-traditional “health promoters”. We want everyone to see themselves as health promoters and to reflect on the ways in which they can contribute to advancing health and wellness.

Join us for a discussion on Knowledge Translation with speakers Ryan Heavens, Peter Snow, and Sabina Vohra-Miller.

Ryah Heavens has worked in social work since 2013. In the 8 years she has spent with the Metis Nations of Ontario (MNO), she has had the opportunity to work in a variety of position. Through this, she has found a passion for Macro Social Work, and working on Branch or Nation wide initiatives. Ryah has worked on several health promotion projects such as the MNO Vaccination Campaign, Branch wide education and training, and promotional and educational short films.

Peter Snow is a Knowledge Broker with the Canadian Coalition for Seniors' Mental Health (CCSMH). Peter started out in social services, non-profits and then health care before moving into knowledge mobilization. Peter is inspired by people and their infinite capacity to solve problems and be creative. Working for CCSMH is a nice combination of my passion for writing and creating, and my knowledge of health care and social systems.

Sabina Vohra-Miller has an MSc in clinical pharmacology and toxicology and is currently a Doctor of Public Health student at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health. Sabina is the founder of Unambiguous Science, an educational platform that aims to make science approachable, and the co-founder of the South Asian Health Network, a volunteer-based organization focusing on culturally appropriate health education content and advocacy. Sabina’s passions include science education, especially countering vaccine misinformation, as well as promoting and advocating for health equity and access to healthcare. As a first-generation immigrant, she believes strongly in community-based approaches that help build a more resilient and equitable Canada.
