PHACtually Speaking Part 1 - World Antimicrobial Awareness Week

Part 1 of 2 PHACtually Speaking seminars highlighting “World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW)”.

To help us explore the important steps being taken to preserve the effectiveness of existing and new life-saving antimicrobials, we have brought together:

• Michael Hartmann, Sr. Epidemiologist, AMR Task Force, Public Health Agency of Canada

• Mary Coughlin, Sr. Policy Advisor and Dr. Anita Melnyk, Sr. Regulatory Policy Advisor, Health Products and Food Branch, Health Canada

• Dr. Moussa Diarra, Research Scientist, Science and Technology Branch, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada

The presentations will provide an overview of (i) Health Canada’s actions to promote the appropriate use of antimicrobial drugs for human use in Canada; (ii) the Canadian National Antimicrobial Prescribing Survey (NAPS), progressively adopted by Canadian hospitals, to continuously measure the appropriateness of antimicrobial prescriptions; and, (iii) promising alternatives to antibiotics in poultry.

La partie 1 de 2 séminaire Parlons santé soulignant la « Semaine mondiale pour un bon usage des antimicrobiens (WAAW) ».

Pour nous aider à explorer les mesures importantes prises pour préserver l'efficacité des antimicrobiens existants et nouveaux qui sauvent des vies, nous avons réuni :

• Michael Hartmann, Épidémiologiste principal, Groupe de travail sur la RAM, Agence de la santé publique du Canada

• Mary Coughlin, Conseillère principal en politiques, et la Dre Anita Melnyk, Conseillère principal en politique de réglementation, Direction générale des produits de santé et des aliments, Santé Canada

• Le Dr Moussa Diarra, Chercheur scientifique, Direction des sciences et de la technologie, Agriculture et Agroalimentaire Canada

Les présentations donneront un aperçu (i) des mesures prises par Santé Canada pour promouvoir l’utilisation appropriée des médicaments antimicrobiens à usage humain au Canada, (ii) de l’Enquête Nationale Canadienne sur la Prescription des Antimicrobiens (RNSPA) adoptée progressivement par des hôpitaux canadiens pour mesurer continuellement la pertinence des prescriptions d’antimicrobiens, et (iii) des alternatives prometteuses aux antibiotiques dans le secteur de la volaille.
