PHO Webinar: Generating Regional Cancer Statistics: Using the Ontario Cancer Registry SEER*Stat Package

The Ontario Cancer Registry SEER*Stat Package allows users to produce incidence, mortality, survival and prevalence statistics at different levels of geography for studying the impact of cancer on the Ontario population. The Package provides eligible users with access to data derived from the Ontario Cancer Registry and the National Cancer Institute’s SEER*Stat software.

This session will provide an orientation to the Package and hands-on training for producing regional cancer burden statistics. To learn more about the Package, including eligibility, and how to access it to help follow along with examples in the session, visit: https://www.cancercareontario.ca/seerstat.

Intended audience: Public health professionals and individuals who are responsible for investigating/reporting on cancer burden for their area and are interested in learning more about this Package, or refreshing their skills in using this Package, to generate custom statistics.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

1. Describe the Ontario Cancer Registry SEER*Stat Package, including what it offers and how to request it.

2. Use Ontario Cancer Registry data to produce regional (including PHU) level statistics, including:

  • Incidence and mortality counts and age-standardized rates.
  • Relative survival ratios.
  • Limited-duration prevalence.
