Public Health Ontario has released a knowledge product, Focus On: Backward Contact Tracing, that provides a conceptual overview of backward contact tracing (BCT) as an emerging approach for public health management of COVID-19. This document also provides operational considerations for public health units (PHUs) on how BCT can be included in their COVID-19 case and contact management.
BCT is a method of contact tracing which aims to find primary or source cases of COVID-19 and other cases that are linked to that source.
PHO, in collaboration with the Kingston-Frontenac Lennox and Addington Health (KFL&A) Unit, has developed this webinar as an accompaniment to this BCT document. The webinar will help local public health units that are not currently using this approach implement BCT.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
Adrienne Hansen-Taugher is a registered nurse and program manager with KFL&A Public Health. Most of her 26-year career in public health has been spent in the area of communicable disease and infection prevention and control. She is currently managing the COVID-19 Case and Contact Management Team.
Liane Macdonald is a Public Health Physician in Health Protection at Public Health Ontario, where she is involved in the COVID-19 response. She completed an MD at McMaster University, an MSc (Public Health) at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and is a Public Health and Preventive Medicine specialist.
