Title: Vaccination among people living with and at risk for HIV
Dr. Burchell is a Canada Research Chair in Sexually Transmitted Infection Prevention, an Associate Professor with the Department of Family and Community Medicine and the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto, and a Scientist at St. Michael's Hospital, Unity Health Toronto. She uses epidemiological data to improve prevention and health care services for STIs and minimize the complications of STI-associated diseases, including HIV, human papillomavirus (HPV), syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia. Her research in vaccination to date has predominantly focused on HPV vaccination among people living with HIV and gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men. Most recently, she received a CIHR grant to also study uptake of and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines among people living with HIV.
Dr. Maria Sundaram is an infectious disease epidemiologist who has been studying respiratory virus epidemiology and influenza vaccines since 2011. She has published 34 peer-reviewed research articles on topics including influenza, RSV, and HPV, and is a current weekly expert contributor for BBC World Service Radio on COVID-19. When she is not doing research, she likes to play the piano, cook, and train capoeira.
