CanCOVID Speaker Series

School Closures, Youth Development & Parental Work: Evidence from Canada

Dr. Catherine Haeck, Associate Professor, University of Quebec in Montreal, Department of Economics

We encourage you to join us for a discussion on Canada’s school closures with Dr. Catherine Haeck. In this speaker series, Dr. Haeck will discuss the impact of school closures on parental work, especially single parents. This will be based on models estimated using confidential microdata from Statistics Canada’s Labour Force Survey. The discussion will also touch on the evidence of inequalities in youth test scores by socioeconomic status in Canada and the potential impact school closures will have had on these inequalities. Also covered in the discussion will be Canada's inability to collect reliable periodic data on children and youth.
