Webinar: Path to Success: Becoming an Infection Prevention and Control Rock Star with Your Program Review

An infection, prevention, and control (IPAC) organizational risk assessment (ORA) can be intimidating to many infection control practitioners (ICPs)/program leads. This webinar will provide practical information and strategies on how to approach an ORA and develop IPAC program priorities. By the end of the webinar, participants will be more familiar with evaluating their IPAC program using an ORA and be on the path to success!

Intended audience: Infection Prevention and Control Practitioners/those responsible for supporting IPAC Programs in healthcare and congregate living settings

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

1. Understand the importance and impact of their role in championing infection prevention and control to ensure the safety of staff, patients/residents, clients and visitors.
2. Describe the steps involved with undertaking an IPAC ORA to assess the risks of transmission of infection to patients/residents/clients and staff.
3. Understand how to use the ORA to develop IPAC program priorities and an action plan.

Presenter(s): Catherine Richard and Eleanor Paget

Catherine Richard, PT, CIC, is a Regional IPAC Specialist with Health Protection at Public Health Ontario. Catherine is a registered physiotherapist with certification in infection control. She has worked in IPAC and Occupational Health & Safety for over 16 years in both acute and community healthcare organizations. She was the community healthcare member of PIDAC from 2014-2017.

Eleanor Paget, RN, BScN, CIC, is an IPAC Specialist with Public Health Ontario’s Regional IPAC Support West team. Prior to working at PHO, Eleanor had 16 years of public health experience working on the Vaccine Preventable Disease team as well as the Infectious Disease Control team at the Middlesex London Health Unit. Eleanor obtained her BSc in Nursing from the University of Western Ontario and obtained her certification in infection control through the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology.
