Join us for a symposium on climate change and the health of our communities.

About this Event

Climate change is now recognized as a health emergency. What can primary care providers and health professionals do to sustainably deliver care and help communities build resilience?

About the Symposium

This event will examine a variety of topics affecting patients and populations:

• What is the evidence for the health impacts of climate change?

• What are practical opportunities to improve patient care and sustainability?

• What can we learn from innovations in other countries?

Intended audience: Canadian family physicians, primary care providers, health professionals, students, residents, and interested health care providers.

This Group Learning program has been certified by the College of Family Physicians of Canada and the Ontario Chapter for up to 3 Mainpro+ credits.

1:40 pm Keynote Address

  • Courtney Howard, Past President of the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment

2:05 pm Panel 1: Making the Links - Experts examine global scientific evidence on the health effects of climate change, explore its impact on equity, and discuss opportunities to improve community health and resilience.

  • Alice McGushin, Programme Manager for the Lancet Countdown: tracking progress on health and climate change
  • Deborah McGregor, Canada Research Chair, Indigenous Environmental Justice
  • Maya Menezes, Program Director at climate justice organization The Leap

3:15 pm Panel 2: Knowledge to Action - Building on the evidence, our experts will propose interventions and innovations to reduce the health and environmental impact of climate change, including opportunities for education, scholarship, and practice.
