This session was created in direct response to our membership’s feedback and will consist of a panel of PHPC members with experience in managing resource extraction, industrial or infrastructure projects in their jurisdiction.  The first half of the session will consist of each panelist speaking to their experience and outlining strategies and techniques they employed.  The second half of the session will engage the group at-large to discuss, ask questions, learn from each other and identify gaps for the Scientific Independence Termination Risk Task Group to advocate on or address further.

Public Health in the Era of Trump
08:00 - 09:00

This breakfast session will explore changes being made in the U.S. political arena have the potential to directly and indirectly impact public health practice in both the United States and Canada. This breakfast session will bring experts from both sides of the border to review the changes that have occurred thus far during U.S. President Donald Trump’s term, and provide critical analysis and insight into what the changes mean for public health practitioners and partners and how the changes might differentially impact Canadian and U.S. agencies.

Is the Grass Always Greener in the Other Public Health Region?
09:00-17:00

This session will engage public health and preventive medicine (PHPM) specialists and other physicians working in public health and provide a forum to discuss specific public health practice scenarios and cases related to the jurisdictional health system the presenter operates in.  The structure, organization and enabling legislation of public health differs dramatically between (and within) jurisdictions in Canada. How does this impact public health outcomes? How does this impact your role and your work? How might things have been different in another jurisdiction? How can we learn from each other to advocate for a more optimal structure?  Is this even possible? The M&M Rounds format will provide a forum for public health physicians and residents to explore challenging cases and the public health systems they arise in.

This event is open to all physicians working in Public Health
