Public Health and Preventive Medicine: Life After Residency

The Public Health Physicians of Canada (PHPC) and PHPC Resident Council are pleased to invite PHPM Residents and Recent Graduates to participate in a series of webinars that invites PHPM Leaders to discuss their professional journey and highlight lessons learned with regard to their career evolution. Speakers will have the opportunity to share their thoughts on what it takes to achieve a successful and fulfilling career as a PHPM Specialist and to offer advice on career development.

Learning Objectives
Following this webinar, participants will be able to:
  • Explore the career path of a seasoned PHPM specialist as means of exploring professional options
  • Discuss current career opportunities and consider future trends for PHPM graduate employment
  • Identify skills and experiences that can be obtained during residency to prepare for a career as a PHPM specialist

Speaker 

Dr. Hilary Robinson
Senior Medical Consultant
Health Security Infrastructure Branch
Public Health Agency of Canada

Hilary works as a senior medical advisor for the Public Health Agency of Canada’s Health Security Infrastructure Branch. She provides public health advice to a broad range  programs in the Branch including public health capacity development,  the quarantine Program and antimicrobial resistance initiatives. Hilary has a Fellowship in Community Medicine and a Masters in Epidemiology from the University of Calgary. In her career she has been a Medical Officer with First Nations and Inuit Health, Medical Officer of Health for the Yukon Territory, private consultant and Medical screening officer for Citizenship and Immigration Canada as well as occupying varied surveillance related positions with the federal government before landing in the Health Security and Infrastructure Branch.
