Road to Recovery for Routine Immunization: Lessons from COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic has severely affected the routine immunization of children. Most countries experienced drops in childhood vaccination coverage rates, erasing decades of progress. Lifesaving vaccination campaigns were postponed in 50 countries in 2021, putting around 228 million, mostly children, at risk of vaccine preventable diseases such as measles, yellow fever, and polio.

After over two years of the pandemic and ongoing efforts to restore, maintain and improve immunization programmes, what are the key lessons that we have learned? Where are the current gaps and how can health systems be strengthened and adequately resourced to reach every child with lifesaving vaccinations?

Co-hosted by the University of Toronto's Centre for Vaccine Preventable Diseases, at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, and UNICEF Canada during World Immunization Week 2022, this webinar seeks to provide a platform to share best practices and learnings through the COVID-19 pandemic that can serve as opportunities as we embark on a road to recovery, benefiting routine immunization.

Speaker presentations will be followed by an interactive Q&A session.
