Vernissage Health Dialogue Series (VH) is a leadership development initiative designed to assist emerging health system leaders. The program, which began in 2015, is offered to graduate students in the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation and the Rotman School of Management who are emerging leaders in health care.
The COVID-19 pandemic began in the midst of a VH series in March 2020. The situation stimulated the Project Team to consult the leadership literature, develop a bibliography about the critical functions of leaders during a crisis and create an additional dialogue session focused on these leadership functions as they were experienced during the COVID-19 crisis.
Based on the leadership experiences shared during the VH session, the Project Team saw benefit from having emerging system leaders more formally assess their leadership performance against these functions during the current pandemic in comparison to other leaders at their organization. During the first and second waves of the pandemic, a survey of emerging leaders was distributed and analyzed.
This webinar will review the essential roles of leaders during times of crisis, like the COVID-19 pandemic. This presentation will explore the perceptions of health system leadership during crisis through the lens of emerging leaders. An open discussion about the implications for leadership practices, particularly for emerging and early career leaders, will be part of the webinar.
